Broxbourne Saints 1st Team

As the 2007/2008 beckons upon us it is time to reflect on our goals for the season.

The summer has seen a heavy recruitment drive for the first team, with 7 new faces being added to the squad. The players had to undergo trial periods to ensure that they would fit in well and bring the missing ingredients to enable to team to gel. They then, along with the existing members of the squad, had one on ones with myself, to set targets, aims, discuss positions and to share our vision for the team this season.

This is by far the most close nit team we have had at this level, of course that could all change when I start picking the team, but early indications show a real togetherness and a will for each other to succeed as one whole unit. The banter has been flying about all summer and now the hard task begins.

Ultimately this is a whole new experience for us, especially for me personally. To be a player manager will prove a difficult task, but one in which I wouldn't have taken on without the backing of my players. The team I have assembled is quite frankly mouth watering. I look around the training pitch of a Wednesday and can't believe the amount of talent there is at my disposal. I have been thinking all summer about where and how to play the lads, and I am convinced our tactics will come good.

To bring a trophy home for this club, which some of us have served for so long, is the aim for this season. The boys have worked so hard, and I am so proud to be leading them in what we believe will be a memorable season.

I believe my end of season column will reflect that the high expectations we hold at the onset, have become a reality.
